This is what I came for.
I moved back to the UK exactly a year ago today. Having aced my Visual Communications degree back in Dubai with a solid portfolio to boot, I was confident that finding a job out here would be a breeze. Obviously, I was wrong. After months of knocking on doors with no response, I’m sure you can imagine how I must’ve felt. And then SCA happened. As cliché as it sounds, it seems as if it was destiny. Without much thought, I applied one afternoon. 90 minutes later I was on the phone with Marc and 3 months later I am here, frantically reading and SCABing and Passion Projecting as the first day of term draws nearer.I was apprehensive at first about going back into education. I really wanted to work. But the more I thought about it the more I realised, I wasn’t ready for work. I knew that going to SCA was going to give me what I exactly needed:
- Countless opportunities
‘Every brief is a chance to shine.’ Getting to work on live briefs and hone my skills is definitely what the doctor ordered.
- Horse riding skills
The Positioning book talks about finding horses to ride. I got lucky and found the whole stable! I’ve scored some stellar mentors, and some super inspiring classmates. Can’t wait to meet you all.And finally,
- A good @$$ kicking
I knew that this course wasn’t going to be a walk in the park. But the first book on the reading list really set the tone. I expected the reading list to be the easiest part of our summer assignments. I love reading and I devour books at the speed of light. ‘Your Memory’ took me F-O-R-E-V-E-R to read. Then I realised that nothing was going to be easy this year, and it excites me. Bring it on!
