****WARNING: WORKING DUMP IS THE NEW WORKING SMART****

By Kyle Foreman

We are constantly told how important working smart is to our success at SCA. Making a plan, time management, goals, a clear mind and dot collecting to name just a few.

But reflecting back on the D&AD process and the last couple of months at SCA, I think working dumb is the new working smart. Of course, smart thinking and strategy will always be key to a brilliant idea, but following your gut and acting out of a passion, a dream, a love or simply a feeling, in my opinion, is the most exciting, original and rewarding way to work.

Like my uncle always says (insert thick Irish accent)

“I would rather try and make a car for the crack of it d’ya know? Than be a mechanic and hate my job.”

I think working from your gut is the best way of creating work that is unexpected, original and unique to you. One piece of advice I would give to anyone starting SCA in September is the same thing I have been battling with recently; don’t loose sight of your creative self. It was the thing that got you into the school and it’s the thing that will make you stand out and be known for something fresh.

Marc once described me by saying ” Your head is in your gut” and maybe that’s what makes me different. One thing is for sure, Marc creates an orchestra of talent, each with their own unique ability. So don’t forget that you have a seat in that orchestra and all you have to do is keep playing your song.
