Useful Luck, by @jcxh

As I write this, it’s the first day of the Lunar New Year, also known as Chinese New Year throughout most of the West. Being sat in a living room somewhere in the south of England makes it all seem like a non event, but back with my maternal side of the family half way across the world, it’s their equivalent of Christmas; a saying goodbye to the old and ushering in the new.

It’s a chance for me to take stock one more time and look at what I need to do in the year ahead.

So what’s in store in the year of the Goat? Looking at my own horoscope, it says I could be in for a luck filled year. In no way does that give me a reason to be complacent, however. I doubt charging around the studio dressed in red (a lucky colour for the orientals) and waiting for the proverbial bull to come along is going to do me any favours.

We are half way through the course.

The days are dwindling between now and portfolio day.

Now and D&AD.

Now and Cannes.

Now and either letting it go tits up or hitting the nail on the head.

Horoscopes are not destiny. They are the predictions for the quality of the playing field. I guess I have already set myself up to be slightly more lucky with where I am now. The stars are already in my favour. Now it’s just about playing my cards right so that when I look back this time next year, I’ll know that I used my luck to its full potential.
