Things I learned from D&AD New Blood…

Frazer: After Effects is over-rated.

Ashley: Push, push, push, push, push, push, push, push, push, push, push, push, push, push, push then pull it back and make sure it makes sense.

Soren: “It ain’t over till the fat lady sings, right Elin” – Marc

Adam: Commit early.

Nathan: Be decisive. It gives you time to make your idea the best it can possibly be.

Dounia: Manage your time, learn Premiere Pro and always keep it simple.

Annie: Trott was saying, he won an award for a business that went under soon after. At the end of the day if it doesn’t sell/start a conversation it doesn’t matter how many awards a campaign wins (so you better have fun with it).

Jacqui: Get your script written and approved at least a week before deadline so that you don’t give your art director sleepless nights. Also note that this process will take twice as long as you think.

Fiona: Command + S

Pugh: Hand in your SCAB on time. What time is it now?

Eytan: “Why would anyone want an award for students?” Dave Trott- I’m going with his philosophy.

Alex M: if we have a good idea five days before the deadline,  stop pissing around and start crafting.

Ben: ^ What he said. Think about the execution of the video, make sure it strengthens the idea and not just illustrate it. Plus remember the judges are watching ~200 videos per brief, so its got to stand out or at least wake them up.

Jezza: Just do it. Even if Nike is not on brief.

Nina: If you’re not in it, you can’t win it. Self doubt will kill any idea. Just go with your gut and have fun.

Relax. You’re not working in a factory. Keep the champagne on ice and let the ideas flow. Get the right amount of sleep. Never stop raving.

Joel:  1. Get a solid idea as early as possible, and keep questioning it. 2. Start early with learning the software and know what it’s capable of. 3. And just keep trucking.
