Media silence on the modern day slave trade in Libya @Hoballah14

Today, I would like to speak about a topical subject: the slavery in Libya.

CNN revealed in a report the horrible and dramatic conditions in which these people live. We are in the 21st century, at the end of the year in 2017, and we discover that in Libya we are selling Africans, humans beings.

Migrants, young people who have left their country to find work or to live in better find themselves slaves.

They are sold by auction as of the cattle.

This is a crime against humanity, the enslavement of people is supposed to have been abolished for many years.

This subject is particularly close to my heart because I grew up in Africa with black people, no matter the colour of our skin, we are all supposed to be equal and have the same value. The black Africans had a hard story.

In front of Dakar, there is an island “Gorée”, where the slaves were deported for many years, many tourists to go there and visit “the house of slaves” which remains a symbol of the slave trade. We are supposed to learn from past mistakes and not to reproduce them.

Right now in Libya, young people are locked in cages, suffer violence, and resold. They are beaten, raped and treated like animals. They ask ransom parents helpless to deliver their children, prisoners. The media does not even talk enough about this dramatic situation. However, hundreds of people took to the streets in Paris to show their anger and indignation after the broadcast of the report with personalities such as Omar Sy or Didier Drogba while the leaders of African countries do not react and say nothing. We close our eyes to the future of humanity when human beings are able to sell other human beings.

Where did the principles of equality go? of respect for each other? of democracy? And those who suffer this are no longer human beings but just merchandise?

All this is outrageous, everyone should stand up to denounce these acts of cruelty. Our world is bad, it is full of hatred, cruelty, thirst for money, nothing matters. Things must change and be denounced. People must realize the seriousness of the situation. Heads of state must remedy this situation as soon as possible.

I’m really sad to see that and to know that in the world, there are acts of barbarity every day while I’m in school, in London, that I eat at the restaurant and that at night I sleep in my bed. I am grateful for all that I have and for the conditions in which I live.

Life is unfair, the world we live in is unfair and really sad sometimes.
