Kenny’s 14 SCABs of Xmas

Well term one at SCA is over and look how far we’ve came. We’ve went from a group of strangers in a pub to an agency of tightly bonded buddies.

With partnerships blossoming and portfolio briefs well underway, I think we can all agree that we’re officially about to get into the nitty gritty of what this course is all about. With that in mind, here are five things I’m truly thankful for from term one.

5: Masterclasses. These lectures give us so much insight into adland. Wether it be an ad legend reminiscing on their glory days or a fast track to using copy well, these classes inspire, entertain and teach us.

4: Getting work torn apart. A lot of the time your first idea sounds perfect. You’re confident, ambitious and ready to execute it as soon as possible. Here’s the thing though; it’s probably crap and in the back of your head, you know it. That’s why it’s so important to have critique, and at SCA we’ve got buckets of it.

3: Friends. I’ve met some of the best people over the past four or so months. We’ve known each other for such a short time yet I believe I’ve found my people. People who I’ll not only work with, but laugh with, dance with and reflect with.

2: it’s not what you know, it’s not who you know, it’s what you know about who you know. This phrase – coined by Mark – stuck with me over the term. At SCA we make a huge amount of connections. Knowing about these people and researching them has not only given me something to chat about, but also a better understanding of roles within the industry.

1: Mary. I’m very lucky. I feel like I’ve found the right person for not just life, but a partnership. We work well together, we laugh together and we (sometimes) win together.  I just said goodbye to her for the Christmas holidays and it’s like I’ve lost a limb.
