Is it stress? – By @thefuerst

Is it stress?

For anyone who reads this SCAB, here is a warning. You probably end up with more questions than answers. Maybe even questioning your current situation.

I actually thought I knew what stress is, but now I’m not so sure about the term anymore.

When you work on a magazine, pretty much alone. Work over hours for 4 weeks straight.
Cut out the last picture the last minute.
Change the gradient there and there a little bit.

And then checking every detail before it goes to the printer.

You know it’s your responsibility. You can’t concentrate anymore. You are afraid.
Your mind just tells you 300,000.

300,000 printed issues.
I came so far, I can’t make a mistake.

And then you finally sign off the proof of the printer. That’s what I used to picture stress like.

But there is a difference now.
After sending off the print files you would open a beer, cheer to your colleagues and go home for a good sleep. Start the next week chilled.

At SCA stress feels different, or maybe it’s not stress at all.
Maybe I feel something else, where I have no words for.
It’s like starting a marathon but you’re actually sprinting.
You know you can still run for a bit, but you also know you will be fucked after some time. Portfolio day is two months away. But it feels like it would be tomorrow.

It’s like knowing all the things you still have to do. How long the journey still is. But suddenly you don’t know how to put one foot after the other. What should I do first. You are about to lose the ability to run.

Now, this could sound a little bit depressing, but I can calm you down. It’s not. It’s like in a marathon. You wouldn’t freak out. You know you didn’t hit the wall yet. You just have to be very clever what to do next. How can you actually get to the finish line?
Because the worst scenario would be to stop running.

So how can we all (SCA students) finish this marathon and with the best possible time?

Maybe the next water station is not far away. Maybe it’s time to walk for a bit and to make a plan. Maybe we need each other to finish together.

I hope this SCAB makes everybody realise how important it is to reflect on ourselves. It can save you from a lot of real stress.
Know the signs, know your environment, know yourself.

There are still 50 words left to finish the limit of this SCAB.
But sometimes you need to be clever about how you get there.

RUN, RUN, RUN, RUN, RUN, RUN, RUN, RUN, RUN, RUN, RUN, RUN, RUN, RUN, RUN, RUN, RUN, RUN, RUN, RUN, RUN, RUN, RUN, RUN, RUN, RUN, RUN, RUN, RUN, RUN, RUN, RUN, RUN, RUN, RUN, RUN, RUN, RUN, RUN, RUN, RUN, RUN, RUN, RUN, RUN, RUN, RUN, RUN, RUN, RUN, RUN, DONE
