Friends

Friendssssssss, words cannot express all that you mean to me. May you somehow just know that which I cannot explain.

I forgot I was supposed to write a blog post today, so following is one of my many declarations of love to “Friends”, in honor of their upcoming ‘comeback’.

I prefice by saying, that these following words will not begin to express the amount of love my heart holds for this show.

When I was 1 year old, “Friends”, the story of the lives of six friends in their mid-twenties, living (in ridicilous apartments that anyone of their job rank couldn’t possibly afford, but was on the very last episode conveniently explained to be because of ‘rent control’), in the middle of Manhattan, NY, started. One year after I was born, how meant to be isn’t that?

I am born and bred iwth “Friends”, I’ve got red, blue and yellow blood coursing through my veins, all my referenced are that of “Friends”, hence the lack of actual “Friends”.

I was six, when I was faced with my first dilemma, having to choose between watching my favorite kid show about a bear or “Friends” because they both started at the same time.

I don’t really need to say what I chose.

Growing up, “Friends” resonated with me on so many levels and I learned so much from that show, it did not only teach me English but would always, without a fail, make me happy whenever I was sad. As soon as I pressed play.

I do own all the seasons on VHS, on DVD box sets and a special collectors box. I own a “Friends” game, I sewed a “Friends” logo on a pillow even though it took me ten weeks to do so and a “Friends” t-shirt that I proudly wore until reaching the ripe age of 20.

When “Friends” ended, on May 6th of 2004, I am not ashamed to say I cried, I remember exactly where I was, how I sat, who was with me, what air smelled like, how I held a bowl of dried plums in my hands while proudly exclaiming all that I felt while watching those six friends of mine, walk out the door and close it behind them.

A moment please.

Ross. Rachel. Phoebe. Monica. Chandler. Joey.

P.S

Two of my siblings have met three of the six “Friends” and no, none of them were Jennifer Aniston. Needless to say, I like those two siblings just a wee bit less than the rest.

And yes, I will, 100 percent, no doubt, be attending Mr. Matthew Perry’s play, “The End of Longing” in London, within short.

You can grab tickets here if you want:

I hear the reviews are sublime.

A little trivia Q: How many times did I mention “Friends” in my text.

all the best,
Suki
