Exponential – By @ethanbennett94

Exponential

I was without my phone for a few days this week. Most will know I’m on my phone an awful lot. It’s become an integral part of my life as it has with the wider population. Ok I had Facebook and other things to communicate on while I was at home or at school, but everywhere else I was actually disconnected for a change. This could be the last time I’ll ever be truly disconnected.

We’ve had two eye opening speakers come in in the last couple of weeks. Jonathan MacDonald and Russell Buckley, both future thinkers in technology. The development of technology is increasing at an exponential rate and we are beginning to enter the epoch where human technology combines with human biology. What does this mean?

Well, for one thing, it means that I won’t have to worry about braking my phone. Soon, my phone will most likely be inside me. In my eye? In a chip in my body. Amazing, no stress about missing texts or notifications. No anxiety. There’s no possible way I can become disconnected again.

However, during my time of lack of telecommunication device, I felt quite liberated. Focused on the world I’m standing in, and not in the vast expanse of the internet. I’m worried that this disconnect will eventually be lost and that eventually, if you do become disconnected, the gap between those who are in the matrix, plugged in via their contact lens, and those who are not will be so expansive that you just wouldn’t be able to cope with it. You’d go mad, not being in the same world as everyone else. Alone.

This is just the first of Turin’s epochs, the rest will be sure to come quick and we’ll probably all lose our jobs to robots and die soon after.

Have a great weekend!
