Alex Taylor´s cheat sheet

Last week was tough. For the SCAB I thought to make a list about all my failures at SCA until now. I´d need days to write them all, jeezus. I´ll wait until my big ultimate failure to write it.

Instead, I’ve decided to do something more helpful and go over the 3 names Alex Taylor told me I should study. This at least may be helpful for someone.

These 3 names are: Mark Reddy, Dave Dye and Paul Belford. She told me that I should know who they are, what they’ve done and which brands they have work with. So I’ve just made a small resume about them.

Mark Reddy. He´s Head of Art at BBH. On his description in D&AD he says some things he´s done such as creating a series of Radio ads with Peter Sellers; illustrating the Christmas cover of the Radio Times; making TV props for Spike Milligan; watching Paul Arden drive a golf ball through a glass window onto a Soho street; designing the symbol of the ill-fated Millennium celebrations; art directing Volkswagen ads for twelve years; winning a couple of D&AD pencils with Nick Gill for Barnardo’s; and working with a cavalcade of wonderfully talented colleagues and friends. He´s made cool stuff for Heal´ Summer Sale, Harvey Nichols Sales, Axe Anarchy For Him and For Her or Nikon (https://www.dandad.org/awards/professional/2004/press-advertising/13624/gun/). He’s also made The Guardian ¨High on the hogs¨. He has more Pencils than numbers I can count.

Dave Dye. He´s Head of Art at JWT. He has also worked at AMV BBDO and Mother. He´s a nerd of the history of advertising which is reflected on his blog Stuff from the loft (https://davedye.com/) where he also has a podcast (and it is sooo good). He has made campaigns for Apple, The Economist, Nike, Volkswagen or adidas. He’s also made D&AD12 Annual cover. He´s the coolest.

And finally, Paul Belford. He´s the best art director at the moment. He´s the one who creates advertising that doesn´t seem advertising.  He has made the cover of The Copy Book. But he has also made amazing work for the type museum, the Tate Gallery, Playstation, the Royal Academy of Arts, a poster for Bruno Maag, eve matress or the Advertising Association. He´s brilliant http://paulbelford.com/work/
